Lorraine was born in 1945.  Lorraine's father was Alan Gardiner Toovey and her mother was Margaret Evelyn Brown.  Her paternal grandparents are Lomas George (Lowrie) Toovey and Emily Charlotte Gardiner; her maternal grandparents were Lindsay Murdock Graham Snushall and Margaret Ellen (Nell) McGlenchy.  She has four brothers and four sisters, named Robert, David, Wayne, Shane, Alexie, Karin, Linda and Raelene.  She is the oldest of the nine children.
