Edward was born in October 1950.  Edward's father is Alfred George (Alf) Toovey and his mother was Dorothy Joan (Topsy) Brown.  His maternal grandparents were Lindsay Murdock Graham Snushall and Margaret Ellen (Nell) McGlenchy.  He has four brothers and eight sisters, named John, Dorothea, Alan, Peter, Judith, Maxine, Pauline, Kay, Julia, Susan, Denise and Sharon.  He is the fifth oldest of the thirteen children.
