Lilian was born in 1896.  Lilian's father was Robert Joseph William Stynes and her mother was Mary Anne Somers.  Her paternal grandparents were William John Stynes and Mary Anne McDonald.  She had six brothers and a sister, named Charles, Reginald, Harry, Harold, Robert, Walter and Alice.  She was the seventh oldest of the eight children.
