Robert was born on April 14th, 1870.  Robert's father was Daniel McDonald and his mother was Mary Anne Hennessy.  His paternal grandparents were Edward McDonald and Catherine Potaskie II.  He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Alfred, Daniel, Ernest, Henry, John, Thomas, Alexander, Agnes, Alice, Mary and Anne.  He was the fourth oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 18 in 1888.
