James was born in 1859.  James' father was Edward McDonald and his mother was Maria (Mary) Maher.  His paternal grandparents were Edward McDonald and Catherine Potaskie II.  He had three brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, John, Edward, Lillian, Margaret, Mary and Bridget.  He was the fifth oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 92 on July 20th, 1951.
