Catherine was born on March 1st, 1833.  Catherine's father was Edward McDonald and her mother was Catherine Potaskie II.  Her paternal grandparents are About Family Tree McDonald and McDonald Family Tree About; her maternal grandparents were John Potaskie and Catherine Sullivan.  She had seven brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, John, Edward, Owen, Walter, Daniel, James, Mary, Anne, Elizabeth and Brigid.  She was the sixth oldest of the twelve children.
