Rachel was born in October 1983.  Rachel's father is Donald George Calvin (Calvin) Mackenzie and her mother is Gai Elizabeth Blair.  Her paternal grandparents were Alexander (Alistair) Mackenzie and Lizzie Dogherty (Aka Ida Davidson).  She had a brother and two sisters, named Angus, Kathryn and Laura.  She is the second oldest of the four children.
