James was born in 1872.  James' father was Cornelius Kenna and his mother was Margaret Nisdale.  His paternal grandparents are John Kenna and Mary McReady; his maternal grandparents are Jas Nisdale and Catherine Moran.  He had three brothers and six sisters, named Edmund, John, Michael, Mary, Bridget, Catherine, Theresa, Margaret and Johanna.  He is the second oldest of the ten children.
