Alexander was born in 1826.  Alexander's father was Edward D Hughes and his mother was Catherine Elizabeth Flynn.  His paternal grandfather was James Hughes and his paternal grandmother is unknown Unknown; his maternal grandfather is Unknown Unknown and his maternal grandmother was Mary Flynn.  He had three brothers and two sisters, named Henry, William, Edward, Elizabeth and Julia.  He was the oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 73 on November 1st, 1899.
