Basil was born on July 4th, 1885.  Basil's father was Ebenezer James Dawson and his mother was Eliza Gateland.  His paternal grandfather was William Dawson and his paternal grandmother is Anne Lydia Barrett; his maternal grandparents were James Gateland and Hanna (Anna/Anne) Potaskie.  He had three brothers and ten sisters, named James, Ebenezer, Harry, Grace, Minnie, Cecilia, Amy, Eva, Gertrude, Rose, Blanche, Euphemia and Winnifred.  He was the youngest of the fourteen children.  He died at the age of 30 on August 8th, 1915.
